| March 2007 | A Family Business Bexfield is a family business and so here's a little background information about the next generation. If you know me you can spot the receeding hairline of Jon Fowler and his crew in the Gulf.
No too much interest in knives or scissors yet, just choppers! Could be our dept collection department! The name comes from an old director of George Wolstenholme of Sheffield; Harold Bexfield. My father Sydney Fowler was managing Director of that company for many years until prodcution in its Washington Works ceased. Established in 1745, this was a world famous cutlery, scissors and knives manufacturer. He had made many visits to the USA, starting in 1836 (at that time little if any cutlery was made in the USA) and had supplied the original knife that later became famous as the “Bowie“ knife on show at the Alamo Museum. Sydney Fowler took over the position of Managing Director from Mr F Colver who had been apprenticed to the firm in 1889 when he was 16. He then served in all branches of the factory and was eventually made a director in 1912 and Managing Director in 1922. So there is over 250 years of history connected to us. The newest member of the family, checking quality in Solingen Germany.
This is Alexandra, making sure the production in our Solingen Factory is up to standard; well we try to make sure all our items are of good quality and it needs a keen eye! If things are not to her standard she lets every one know about it! Maybe you have seen this little person at the trade shows she has all ready visited a few in England and Germany. |
